In 1985, Friends of the Earth was the first to shine a spotlight on the alarming loss of tropical rainforests. Eventually, we drove the European Parliament to put laws in place to control tropical timber imports. It was a fight for environmental justice that brought seemingly far-off global issues home \u2013 and showed dishonest companies that, when it comes to destroying our natural world, the rule is: \u201cnot here, not anywhere\u201d.<\/p>
